Therapy, Counseling and Psychotherapy

How do I schedule an appointment?

To schedule an appointment, please click here to go to my 24/7 online calendar. Otherwise, you may call 786.942.9425. Based on my availability, we will try our best to schedule an appointment that meets your needs. My hours are generally 9am-5pm Monday to Thursday, and Fridays 9am-3pm.

What happens during the free phone consultation?

During the free phone consultation, I will ask you some basic questions about your reason for seeking counseling, testing, evaluation and/or psychotherapy so that we can prepare for our first appointment.

In order to book the first appointment, Dr. Shaked requires a valid credit card to reserve the time. You will then be emailed a confirmation, along with some forms to complete. Please print and complete these forms prior to your first appointment, and don't forget to bring them with you to the initial consultation!

What should I bring to my first appointment?

The first appointment is 60 minutes long, so please plan accordingly. When you come in for your first appointment, please bring the completed forms which were emailed to you in your confirmation email (see paragraph above).

You might be a little anxious before the first appointment; that's totally normal. Take comfort in the fact that Dr. Shaked will do her best to manage your anxiety, and to help you feel more at ease.

How long do sessions last?

Individual therapy, couples therapy and family therapy sessions are 45 minutes long (i.e., a "therapy hour"), and are typically held once a week. However, some sessions may be scheduled for longer time periods, or with different frequency. For example: some couples might prefer and benefit from more intense work, such as back-to-back sessions, or patients who are experiencing a crisis might benefit from twice-a-week sessions until the crisis resolves or is better coped with. Testing sessions are usually scheduled with blocks of a few hours at a time. All sessions start and end promptly, so please be on time.

What if I have to cancel?

I reserve your appointment time especially for you. Should you need to cancel an appointment, kindly notify me by email or by phone with at least 24 hours advance notice. With less than 24 hours, a cancellation fee may be applied.

Is counseling and psychotherapy confidential?

All communication between psychologists and their patients is confidential and legally protected, aside from certain exceptions. I am not permitted to disclose anything you share with me--without your written consent. Please do address any concerns regarding confidentiality and privacy with me in person.

How long does counseling and psychotherapy take?

Therapy does not take a set amount of time. The time that

a person/couple/family spends in therapy depends on the nature of the problem, the severity of the symptoms, and the duration of the illness. The length of your treatment and your treatment success will be based upon your particular symptoms, your motivation to improve and your specific goals for therapy.
